Pole vaulters Kurtis Marschall and Nina Kennedy have competed at the Jockgrim Athletics Meet in Germany overnight.

Both the men’s and women’s pole vault fields attracted strong international start-lists, with former world champions going head to head with some of the best emerging vaulters of the current generation.

Marschall continued his productive European tour in the men’s final, finishing second behind Sweden’s Armand Duplantis.

The 2018 Commonwealth champion registered a best height of 5.73m before missing one attempt at 5.80m and retiring.

Duplantis needed just one vault to clear at 5.80m before retiring himself with victory confirmed.

Kennedy – herself a Commonwealth Games medallist in 2018 – finished in seventh place at Jockgrim, with a best vault of 4.30m.

The competition was won in sensational style by Kiwi star Eliza McCartney who claimed victory with a new national record of 4.94m to boot.
