WAIS javelin thrower Kim Mickle has been unsuccessful in her attempt to qualify for the final at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany.

Mickle finished in sixth position in group B with a best throw of 57.46m which was shy of the fourth and final qualifier who threw 59.46m.

Mickle will be disappointed to miss out on the showpiece final after showing excellent form in her lead up event, with several throws of over 62m.

The WAIS scholarship holder threw 57.46m before missing out on her second attempt and recording 56.85m on her third and final attempt.

It was Mickle’s first attempt at World Championship level after she endured two injury hit years following her fourth place finish at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwelath Games.

2009 has been a successful year for Mickle after the 24 year-old won the national javelin title and posted a string of A qualifying throws at local meets in Perth.
