The WAIS side gave the league leaders a good run for their money

The WAIS netball team illustrated their improvement over the course of the Smarter Than Smoking Premier League this week, leading top side West Coast Falcons for three quarters before going down by nine goals.

After suffering a netball lesson at the hands of the Falcons earlier in the season, the WAIS side put up a significantly improved effort across the court to almost snatch an impressive victory.

For the first three quarters of the match the WAIS line up was able to apply consistent full court defensive pressure which didn’t allow the league leading Falcons to get into their running game.

The game was played goal for goal for the first three quarters with WAIS holding a narrow two goal lead at three quarter time. The Falcons showed their class however, finishing much stronger and capitalising on early turnovers in the last quarter to set up the win.  The final scoreboard read WAIS 38 – Falcons 47.

Alicia Janz was the most exciting player on the court, exhibiting her anticipation and first ball pressure, with Janz’s efforts backed up by Sarah Tatam and Mia Washbourne. Young Ellie Smart played an important role in the attacking half, presenting strongly in Goal shooter.

WAIS play the Midland Brick Demons next week in the penultimate game of the regular season.
