Local wheelchair racer, Madison De Rozario has joined fellow Australian Kurt Fearnley in an Australian-double at the annual Oz Day 10km wheelchair race around Sydney’s historic Rocks district.

The 18 year old WAIS scholarship holder, who burst onto the international scene as a 14 year old where she won a silver medal at the Beijing Paralympics, won the race one second ahead of Great Britain’s Shelley Woods.

De Rozario, who is coached by Paralympic legend Louise Sauvage, has sent a message to the rest of the world, signalling she is ready to make an impact in London where she will compete in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m events.

The win caps off two weeks of racing for De Rozario in Sydney and Canberra against a strong international field featuring the Great Britain, Canadian and Swiss Paralympic teams.

Fearnely broke his own course record for an eighth consecutive Oz Day Race win in a time of 20.24mins, while South Australian Nathan Arkley won the junior division in a time of 23.51mins.
