WA pole vaulter Liz Parnov has taken fifth place at the Sotteville Athletics meet in France after clearing 4.30m.

The 23 year-old national champion is chasing an A-Qualifier for the London World Championships in August, which will require a clearance of 4.55m before Athletics Australia’s cut-off date of July 24, when selectors hold their final team selection meeting.

In France, Parnov opened with a first-time clearance at 4.15m before safely negotiating 4.30m – once again on her first attempt.

The London Olympian came unstuck at 4.40m, missing all three attempts and exiting competition. The Sotteville title was won by American Sandi Morris – who cleared 4.76m.

WA-raised track runner Sam McEntee lower his personal best in the 3000m at the London Diamond League.

Running on the same track that will host this year’s world titles, McEntee clocked 7:41.03 for 10th place behind crowd favourite Mo Farah.

McEntee’s time was a seven second PB and moves him into fifth place on the all-time Australian record list for the 3000m. Compatriot Patrick Tiernan ran brilliantly in London for fourth place, in 7:37.76.
