WAIS high jumper Ellen Pettitt has recorded a Commonwealth Games A-Qualifier over the weekend with a clearance of 1.90m.

Several WAIS athletes have recorded promising results on the weekend, in the lead up to Nationals.

Pettitt competed in the Briggs Athletics Classic on Friday in Tasmania, recording a jump of 1.86m (B-Qualifier) before returning to Perth in time to compete on Sunday where she made an impressive jump of 1.90m to win the competition and set the A-Qualifying mark.

As the WAIS Athletics Performance Manager Brian Glencross said “it was an excellent result for Ellen, it is a very good result for her to record an A-Qualifier like this.”

Pole Vault champion Steve Hooker showed signs of returning to his best with an encouraging jump of 5.80m. In his second competition back following the off-season, Hooker showed promise of returning to his Olympic best in time for the Nationals.

There was more good news for WAIS Scholarship holders in the Women’s Pole Vault competition with Amanda Bisk recording a B-Qualifier. With a jump of 4.15m Bisk performed strongly on her first competition using a full run up.

Bisk’s training partners, Alana Boyd and Vicky Parnov also competed using a shorter run up.
