Rechichi and Stowell Finish Marginally Short of Podium

WAIS-AIS sailing athletes Elise Rechichi and Belinda Stowell have missed the podium by two points after a strong week at the ISAF Sailing World Cup round in Palma, Spain.

The pair started the week outside the top ten, but showing consistent improvement against a series of mixed conditions, climbed well inside the top ten to at one point be leading the fleet standings.

Rechichi and Stowell went into the medal race third overall in their first European regatta together, eventually crossing the line seventh in a close fought race.

Both athletes are Olympic gold medallists, with Stowell winning gold on home shores in Sydney 2000, whilst Rechichi is a current reigning Olympic champion, after claiming gold along with fellow West Australian Tessa Parkinson in Beijing in 2008.

The pair next head to round four of the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Hyeres, France, before returning to Spain for the 2012 470 World Championships in May.
