Andrea Gilmore will miss the Firebirds clash with an ankle injury

WAIS netball scholarship holder Lindal Rohde has been included in the West Coast Fever squad for this weekend’s clash against the Queensland Firebirds.

Rohde was drafted into coach Norma Plummer’s squad after an ankle injury to Fever regular and fellow WAIS athlete Andrea Gilmore forced her out of Sunday’s clash at Perth’s Challenge Stadium.

Following a strong start to the season, the Fever has slipped to ninth on the competition ladder, and will need a win against the Firebirds if it is to have any chance of pushing for finals in 2012.

The Fever were highly competitive in close fought loss against the NSW Swifts last weekend, and will hope the addition of Rohde, who made her ANZ Championship debut in 2011 will kick start a second half of the season revival.

The diminutive centre-courter, who can also play on the wing, has been in training with the Fever over the past two weeks which will benefit the 21 year-old according to WAIS head netball coach Michelle Wilkins.

“Lindal has been training with the Fever girls over the last week leading into this weekend’s game, and I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for her,” she said.

The round 9 ANZ Championship clash between the Fever and Firebirds is from Challenge Stadium Perth on Sunday 27 May at 10.10am.
