Six London Paralympians will compete in Germany this weekend, as a nine-strong EngeryAustralia Swim Team contest the Berlin Internationale Deutsche Meisterschaften (IDM) from tonight through to Sunday.

Freestyle relay gold medallist from London Michael Anderson will race in five events, including the men’s 100 and 200m freestyle. A national title holder in the 50m backstroke in Adelaide last month, Anderson will be looking to improve on his time of 28.71 against international competition this weekend.

Western Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder Madeleine Scott and three-time Paralympian Sarah Rose will contest the women’s 100m butterfly, having both swum well in the event at the EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships. Rose took bronze in Adelaide in 1:32.53 behind Paralympic S14 swimmers Kayla Clarke and Amanda Fowler, while Scott was fifth in 1:12.69.

2010 IPC World Championship silver medallist Kara Leo will be challenging herself in all freestyle and backstroke events. With eight events in total Leo has set herself a busy four days in Berlin. Para Pan Pacs team member 27-year-old Sarah Hilt, who is the oldest on the team, will be competing in five of Leo’s events.

Victorian Jeremy Tidy, London Paralympian Aaron Rhind, and the youngest swimmer of the group 18-year-old Reagan Wickens, will all contest the men’s 100m butterfly with Wickens and Rhind both in the S6 classification.

Rhind missed out on a bronze medal at the EnergyAustralia Championships in this event, followed by Tidy in fifth place. Rhind will be determined to better his Adelaide result in Berlin and push for a spot on the podium.
