Slalom Boys Miss Out on World Champ Final

WAIS athletes Kynan Maley and Robin Jeffery have missed out on the final of the men’s C1 event at the world championships in Slovakia this week.

In the heats, Maley produced a blistering performance to rank seventh and progress through to the semi-final stage, but was unfortunately unable to replicate that speed and accuracy at the following run, relegated to 23rd fastest, which was not enough to qualify for the final.

Jeffery competing at his second World Championships couldn’t find the form to progress further than the heats.

The pair however, did enjoy a more fruitful performance in the men’s C1 relay final, after teaming with NSWIS athlete Ian Burrows. The Australian crew combined well to finish a credible seventh overall.

Australia showed a liking for the relay format, with the women’s C1 relay team winning gold, after Jessica Fox, Ros Lawrence and Leanne Guinea partnered to win the inaugural world championship in the non-Olympic discipline.
