Goal shooter and WAIS scholarship holder Ellie Smart has been announced in the Australian 19/Under netball team that is playing a series of matches against New Zealand 21/Under and England 19/Under at the AIS this week.

Australia has won its first three matches in Canberra, with a nail bitting one goal win (57-56) over New Zealand followed by resounding victories over England (64-22 and 80-11). Australia hosts New Zealand in its fourth clash.

Smart, a current Smarter than Smoking WA State Netball League player with the Swan Rangers, was invited to attend a National Underage Talent camp at the Australian Institute of Sport earlier this month, and excelled throughout trials.

Originally from Cunderdin in the Wheatbelt region of WA, 17 year-old Smart has shown selectors across Australia her commitment to netball and her goal scoring ability. She is joined in the team by Kelsey Browne, the younger sister of West Coast Fever star Madison Browne.

Smart will remain at the AIS before returning home to represent Western Australia in the New Idea Australian Netball League at the end of the month.
