Sting Secure Maiden Finals Berth

The Western Sting will taste finals action for the first time after recording two wins on the road in round 6 of the 2011 ANL season.

Back to back victories for both the Sting and Fury in Round 6 at the Waverley Netball Centre will see them join the NSW Waratahs and Queensland Fusion in the 2011 finals series, starting on September 17 and 18 at the same venue.

With finals destiny in their own hands, both the Sting and Fury defeated the Territory Storm and Tassie Spirit to finish in second and third place respectively.

While the Sting will be contesting their first finals, the Fury are no strangers to the post-season having won the premiership every year since the league’s inception in 2008.

The Sting proved too clinical for the Territory Storm in their round six encounter, netting a 67-36 win. A 52 goal salvo from Stacey Northey, supported by 12 goals from Ashleigh Neal did the damage on the scoreboard for WA.

Seventh placed Tassie Spirit displayed more resistance for the Sting, but the finals bound WA outfit was able to convert turnover pressure into scoreboard dominance at crucial stages. WAIS athlete Sarah East shot at 91% accuracy for the match, finishing with 41 goals for the Sting.
