Tamsin Cook Wins Age National Championship Title

WAIS athlete Tamsin Cook has made a bright start to the 2015 Australian Age Championships winning gold in girls’ 16 years 200m butterfly.

Swimming in the first final of the meet at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, Cook couldn’t be caught as she sped home to take the title in a time of 2:09.93. After impressing at the national championships last week with bronze medals in the 400m and 800m freestyles, the West Australian continued her run of success, this time in the butterfly to finish almost three seconds clear of the rest of the field.

The silver medal went to Open Water swimmer Chelsea Gubecka in 2:12.84 withShanella Gee from St Peters Western bagging the bronze in 2:13.93.

There was further medal success for WAIS swimmers on night one, with City of Perth swimmer Sacha Downing claiming bronze in the girls’ 17/18 400m freestyle in a time of 4:17.03.

Downing stepped onto the podium behind race winner Kiah Melverton (4:13.26) and Acacia Wilden-Snedden (4:15.96).

Damian Fyfe earned a silver medal in the boys’ 17/18 freestyle, swimming a 3:55.11 for second place behind Joshua Parrish (3:52.87), whilst Tristan Ludlow (3:55.75) rounded out the medals.

The 2015 Age Nationals continue through til April 20.
