Third times the charm as Maddison Keeney claims Commonwealth Games gold

WAIS graduate Maddison Keeney is finally revelling in Commonwealth Games 3m synchronised springboard gold after a near perfect display in Birmingham.

After making her debut in 2014 with bronze, to starting 2018 as favourites and finishing last, Keeney and her partner Annabelle Smith has come full circle.

Keeney and Smith took the lead with their first dive and never looked close to relinquishing it as they improved throughout the competition to finish on 316.53, well clear of the silver medallists.

She said their disappointment from the Gold Coast four years ago, where they went in as favourites and finished last, made their gold here all the sweeter.

“It just feels like a culmination of what I have learnt as a diver and how to overcome nerves and how I approach my competition,” she said.

“So being able to do that is really just shows me what I am capable of.

“We have been diving together for eight years and there has been so many tough times over the years.

“I am just really proud… it’s a dream.”
