Today at the Birmingham Games – August 3

Western Australian athletes won 10 medals including two old gold a super Tuesday in Birmingham. Nina Kennedy soared to gold in the pole vault and Jake Kavanagh was part of the first ever gold medal winning team in Commonwealth Games history in wheelchair basketball. Alex Saffy collected silver on his Commonwealth Games debut in pool and four years on from a breakthrough medal Rhiannon Clarke claimed bronze on the first full day of athletics. Basketball was in focus as both the men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball and basketball teams all claimed medals.

The final day of swimming sees Kieren Pollard chasing a medal in the 1500m, Peter Bol is in action, and Caitlin Parker commences her campaign. The Kookaburras and Hockeyroos return to the field and Suamili Nanai will look to lift his way to the podium, plus beach volleyball, lawn bowls and badminton action.
