Today at the Birmingham Games – July 30

WAIS athletes were front and center on the opening day of competition. Cycling graduate Matt Richardson claimed the first gold medal by a Western Australian after helping Australia to gold in the men’s team sprint. Fellow graduates Zac Incerti added gold in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay with a heat swim and Conor Leahy claimed bronze in the men’s team pursuit. Australia is also off to a strong start in women’s basketball, men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball, lawn bowls and netball.

Coming up today is more swimming, track cycling, lawn bowls and basketball, while hockey and beach volleyball get underway.
