WA Athletes Nominated for Top Track and Field Awards

With the Athletics in Australia Celebrations set to take place on Sunday the 2nd of April a number of Western Australian athletes have been named on the shortlist for major awards.

Shortlisted athletes were selected by the Special Awards Committee and the Athletics Australia Member Associations, where the overall winners will be voted upon by an independent panel comprising of a number of noted individuals within the athletics community.

 

The Western Australian’s who have been shortlisted are Madison de Rozario, Ella Pardy, Chad Perris, Alana Yukich and Matthew Ramsden.

 

In addition to this Western Australia’s Sebastian Kuzminski has been shortlisted for the Para-Athletics Coach of the Year, Shane Ellis was shortlisted for Junior Coach of the Year and June Streeter has been named on the Official of the Year shortlist.

 

Following two silver medal wins at the Rio Paralympic Games in the T53/54 4x400m and T52/53 800m events, Madison de Rozario has been shortlisted for the Female Para-Athlete of the Year award.

 

Also named on this list was para-sprinter Ella Pardy who came away from Rio with a bronze medal in the T35-38 4x100m Sprint.

 

In addition to this Pardy was also selected as a member of Team Australia for Nitro Athletics Melbourne where she came third in the 100m Ambulatory race.

 

Chad Perris earned his selection in the male equivalent, the Male Para-Athlete of the Year shortlist.

 

In 2016 Perris won bronze at the Rio Paralympic Games in the T13 100m Sprint.

 

Chad also ran for Team China at Nitro Athletics Melbourne, in order to avoid a shortened field, where crossed the line in second place.

 

Young Western Australian athlete, Alana Yukich has been named as a member of the Female Junior Athlete of the Year shortlist following an impressive performance at the Junior World Championships in July where she made it into the semi-finals of the 400m Hurdles.

 

Matthew Ramsden earns his place on the Male Junior Athlete of the Year shortlist after a series of tremendous performances over the past 12 months.

Ramsden ran sixth in the final of the 1500m at the U2-0 World Championships in Poland before enhancing his reputation at the recent Nitro Athletics series in Melbourne where he competed as part of the Bolt All-Stars team.

 

Here he finished first in the One Mile Elimination before taking second in the One Mile Final.

 

The Athletics in Australia Celebration will take place at Sydney Olympic Park at 7pm on Sunday the 2nd of April, the night culminating in the announcement of the teams that will travel to the London 2017 Para-Athletics Championships and the IAAF World Championships.
