WA Sting Firm for Finals Berth

The WA Sting has moved into a strong position to compete in the finals of the Australian Netball League after two wins in Adelaide in the latest round of the 2011 ANL season.

The Western Australians defeated the previously unbeaten Queensland Fusion in a tight contest. The Sting got out to an early six goal advantage at quarter time, before the Fusion fought their way back into the match in the second quarter, with the second half going goal for goal.

WA had to reel in a three goal deficit deep into the last quarter, and led by the impressive shooting of Sarah East (25/26 goals) and some crucial intercepts from Josie Janz, the Sting were able to pull off a 51-50 victory to boost their finals chances.

2011 West Coast Fever representative, Lindal Rohde made her ANL debut for 2011, producing a measured and assured display in centre court.

The WA Sting completed a successful weekend with a 50-39 win over the NSW Blues. The first half was a tightly fought contest, but a standout performance from Josie Janz, who managed to shut out NSW shooter and new Sydney Swifts recruit Borger, allowed the Sting to pull clear in the second half for an 11 goal win.

Sarah East continued her fine form for the 2011 season, with 18 goals from 19 attempts.

The next round of ANL fixtures for the Western Sting will be held in Melbourne this weekend, with WA set to face the Northern Territory Storm and the Tassie Spirit. Two wins from this round would secure a finals berth for the Sting.
