The Western Australian Institute of Sport will be well represented at the Canoeing World Cup events in Europe this June, after Reece Baker, Alana Nicholls and Lisa Oldenhof were all selected in the Australian national squad.

The dynamic trio will compete in Hungary, Germany and Poland following strong performances at the recent National Championships and Olympic Selection Regattas.

WAIS will also have three athletes competing at the International Under-23 regattas in Germany and Poland as well as the German World Cup. Jesse Phillips, Stephen Bird and Michael Baker make up that contingent.

Lisa Oldenhof will join up with the Olympic Canoeing squad on the Gold Coast this weekend ahead of a two week camp.

WAIS paddlers also enjoyed success at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships at Scarborough Beach last weekend.

Rachel Simper powered home with partner Tate Smith to win the mixed double surf ski event, whilst Alana Nicholls had an excellent paddle despite a tough start to claim the bronze medal in the Open Women’s Surf Ski event.

Reece Baker produced an excellent paddle to help his Trigg Island Surf Club claim the bronze medal in the final event on the program the prestigious Men’s Taplin Relay.
