WAIS athletes returned some solid results at the GP2 in Penrith NSW over the weekend with the combination of Alana Nicholls and Lisa Russ proving successful.

Following on from their dead heat for first in the K2 1000m earlier in the meet, Nicholls and Russ teamed up with Hannah Davis and Lyndsie Fogarty to take victory in the women’s K4 500m in a time of 1:39.24m.

Alana Nicholls and Lisa Russ then stormed to victory in the final of the women’s K2 500m, leading from start to finish. The WAIS pair combined well to complete the course in a time of 1:49.45m and finish a boat length clear of Jo Brigden-Jones and Hannah Davis, with the New Zealand combination of Lisa Carrington and Jaimee Lovett claiming third place.

WAIS athletes Jesse Phillips and Stephen Bird claimed second in the final of the men’s K2 500m in a time of 1:33.70m. The pair appeared well in the mix at the 250m mark before Murray Stewart and Jacob Clear pulled away to win by a boat length ahead of the West Australians. Luke and Jake Michael finished third.
