The WAIS netball team has continued to surprise their opponents in the WA Netball Smarter than smoking Premier League, notching up two more wins over the past two weeks.

The young WAIS team has suffered a number of athletes being unavailable to play due to illness and exams yet still managed to come away with the points against the Rangers and Lions.

Last week’s game against the Rangerswas a game WAIS controlled on the scoreboard throughout but lacked fluency of play at times. WAIS lacked concentration and consistency of effort with the Rangers team desperate to make the upset. WAIS did enough to hold Rangers off to win 43 to 32. WAIS’ best player was Mia Washbourne.

This week WAIS faced Perth Lions without key defenders Mia Washbourne (in Scotland for family wedding) and Sarah Tatam (Uni Exam) as well as young shooter Ellie Smart still being out with tonsillitis. Natalie Moeahu-pehi made her first appearance for the season coming back from knee injury. Lions were at full strength with Jasmine Keene spear heading their shooting circle.

Young defenders Alice Coakley and invitee Alyce Peters stood up to the challenge and created strong resistance in the goal circle forcingerrors form the Lions centre court. Whilst it was a game of many unforced and forced errors by both teams it was the WAIS attackers that maintained better possession of the ball at the crucial times.

In the second quarter WAIS had 20 attempts to Lions 11 this set up the win for WAIS who held offthe Lions in the last minute of play to win 46 to 45.

WAIS will play West Coast Falcons next week who are the only team WAIS has been unable to defeat this season.
