WAIS Netballers Represent Australia

WAIS athletes Kate Beveridge and Caitlin Bassett are currently on tour with the Australian Diamonds netball squad in the teams’ final series for 2008.

Beveridge and Bassett played against the New Zealand Silverferns earlier in the week, going down to the World number two, 41 to 46. Beveridge played all four quarters at Goal Shooter, and her forward line pressure alongside Susan Pratley saw Australia jump out to a 15-6 lead early.

But New Zealand proved they would be a threat pulling the half time lead to just one point, with the break reached at 21-20 in Australia’s favour. Both sides traded attacks in the second half before New Zealand launched a late attack to claim the advantage in the series with a 2-1 lead in the four Test series.

They head to Brisbane to play the deciding Test on Sunday 2nd November. Australia stands to lose its world number one ranking should it lose to New Zealand in the final Test of the series. The game will be televised on Channel 10.
