WAIS Netballers Selected for West Coast Fever Academy

Published On: 21 September 2017

West Coast Fever has announced the nine athletes who will form the inaugural West Coast Fever Academy, as well as being awarded Western Australian Institute of Sport scholarships.

West Coast Fever Training Partner Olivia Lewis has been named alongside fellow Gold Medal winning Western Sting athletes Natalie Bright, Sunday Aryang and Helen Taylor.

Taylor was instrumental for the premiership-winning West Coast Warriors throughout the 2017 West Australian Netball League (WANL) season, while Aryang and Bright are two of the State’s up and coming defenders.

State Team Members Alkira Rodney (19U), Courtney Kruta (19U), Molly Warne (17U) and Jessica Repacholi (17U) have also been named, alongside 18U West Australian Netball League Grand Final MVP Sloan Burton.

Rodney and Repacholi were team mates at the Souwest Jets, as they made their return to WANL’s League Division in 2017, while Kruta relished her move to the Coastal Sharks, making the Centre position her own in their League side.

Burton ended the WANL season with 306 goals at 85% accuracy, while Warne was the Sharks’ leading shooter with 262 goals from 340 attempts.

West Coast Fever Executive Officer Tamara Sheppard said the Academy would align with the State Team and Australian Netball League programs.

“The aim of the program is to provide a holistic approach to the athletes in a high performance environment and provide further opportunity for player development, underpinned by our partnership with WAIS, Netball WA and Netball Australia,” Sheppard said.

“I sincerely congratulate all these athletes on their selection into the West Coast Fever Academy, and look forward to seeing them continue to take significant strides in their netball careers.”

“All of these players have certainly put in a significant amount of work to get to this point, and it’s exciting to see the depth of talent we have here in Western Australia.”
