Following a busy season of regattas and competition meets, WAIS sailors have returned home to training with a long 2010 shaping.

WAIS head sailing coach Belinda Stowell claimed the recent nationals had been a success for WA, with several athletes making national squads.

“The Western Australian sailors are now back in Perth and back in training after a successful nationals campaign,” Stowell said.

“Things are shaping up well for 2010 with some of our young sailors selected for some great teams and squads.”

WAIS sailboard athlete, Eamon Robertshaw has been listed in Australia’s Youth World Championships team, whilst Mark Spearman has been named in the Youth Olympic squad.

WA has produced a strong result with five athletes listed in the Australian youth squad for 2010.

Carrie Smith, Ella Clark and Matthew Wearn will join current national champions in the 420 class, WAIS athletes Matt Jerwood and Patrick Vos. The group will travel to Queensland in April for a training camp.

“It should be an important learning curve for them,” Stowell said. “They have worked hard, and I’m sure they’ll enjoy it.”
