Western Australian Institute of Sport slalom canoe athletes Robin Jeffery and Kynan Maley have been named on the Australian team to take on the best at this year’s World Championships in Slovenia.

Jeffery and Maley will partner together to compete in the C2 at September’s showpiece in Ljubljana, whilst both were named in the individual C1 event, made famous by WAIS legend Robin Bell who won bronze in the event at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

The WA pair earned the representative call-up following impressive results through the three selection events, with the most recent being held at Bradys Lake, Tasmania on the weekend with both athletes enjoying strong competitions.

Maley claimed victory in the men’s C1 with a scintillating second run of 103.03secs. Jeffery produced two consistent runs to finish third two seconds further back.

The dynamic duo then had to put fatigue aside as they competed together in the C2, producing a lungbusting effort to claim fourth position in a time of 118.45secs. Maley and Jeffery’s consistent form over the three trial events secured their C2 spot, with the pair tipped to feature strongly in the event with plenty of time between now and September’s action to gel.
