Western Australians Swim their way to Australian Dolphins Selection

Last Friday night saw three Western Australian swimmers named on the Australian Dolphins Team for the 2017 FINA World Championships following strong performances at the Australian Swimming Championships in Brisbane.

The three athletes selected were 2016 Rio Olympian Brianna Throssell and Australian Dolphins debutants, Zac Incerti and Holly Barratt.

At 29 years of age, Holly Barratt is the oldest member of the team, earning her selection on day two of the National Championships.

 

Swimming in the 100m backstroke Barratt finished the race in 59.66 seconds, automatically qualifying her for a place at the World Championships.

Incerti will make his debut as a member of Australia’s 4x100m freestyle relay team after coming fourth in the men’s 100m freestyle.

 

Finishing second to fellow Rio Olympian Emma McKeon in the 200m butterfly, Throssell earned the right to once again compete for Australia on the world stage.

The 31 member Australian Dolphins FINA World Championships squad includes 19 athletes who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 16 members of the 2015 World Championships team.

Queensland remained a dominant force in Australian swimming with 21 of the 31 athletes selected, hailing from Queensland.

The squad will travel to Budapest, Hungary later this year to compete in the 2017 FINA World Championships between the 14th and 30th of July.
