The Be Active Perth Wheelcats have claimed another record breaking back to back gold, after winning the 2014 National Wheelchair Basketball League after defeating a resilient RSL QLD Spinning Bullets side 79-55 in the grand final at the Herb Graham Recreation Centre in Perth.

The Wheelcats made hard work of it in this year’s finals series after going down to QLD in a thrilling 59-56 overtime loss in the qualifying final, which forced an extra game against Victoria in the elimination final.

Unlike their first encounter which was a classic nail-biter game, the Be Active Perth Wheelcats attacked from the first minute in the Grand Final and opened up a nine-point break by halftime.

WAIS athlete Justin Eveson was again the standout with 32 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists.

Fellow WAIS scholarship holder Shaun Norris was also in fine form with 30 points, 10 assists and six steals to justify his season MVP award.

The Wollongong Rollerhawks defeated Victoria 96-72 in the bronze medal play-off.

It is now the turn of the girls as the Be Active Western Stars try to emulate the Cats and defend their maiden Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League Title in Brisbane on 17-19 October.
