At the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS), we are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and high-performance environment for our athletes, staff, and the entire WAIS community.
Our Win Well culture is built on the pillars of health, wellbeing, and safety – ensuring that everyone can perform at their best.
National Integrity Framework
The National Integrity Framework is a suite of policies which sets out rules for unacceptable behaviour at WAIS and explains the way complaints and breaches of these rules are managed.
The WAIS National Integrity Framework came into effect on 1 January 2024, following endorsement by Sport Integrity Australia.
This Framework applies to all WAIS employees, athletes, and other relevant individuals, and outlines the expectations for conduct within the WAIS environment.
The Framework is built around four core policies:
- Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy
- Participant Protection Policy
- Competition Manipulation and Sports Gambling Policy
- Improper Use of Drugs and Medicines Policy
Together, these policies support our commitment to a safe, fair, and respectful sporting environment for everyone at WAIS.

Child Safeguarding
WAIS Child Safe Commitment Statement
All children and young people have a right to be and feel safe.
In pursuit of their high-performance sporting aspirations, children and young people and their families place their trust in WAIS.
WAIS is committed to the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of all children and young people involved in our organisation.
Everybody at WAIS is responsible for working together to proactively address risks to child safety and continuously improve our child safe culture and practices.
WAIS has a 100% commitment to child protection and the physical and psychological safety of children and young people. All allegations, disclosures and concerns will be treated seriously and responded to immediately, consistent with our policies and procedures.
WAIS Women’s Artist Gymnastics Review
WAIS is committed to continuously learning from its experiences and applying best practice principles to uphold its commitment to Athlete Care.
On 20 April 2022, Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) released its report following a review into historic allegations of athlete abuse and mistreatment within the WAIS Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Program, which operated between 1988 and 2016.
You can access information about WAIS’s response to the findings and recommendations of the SIA WAIS Women’s Gymnastics Program Report here:
Progress Updates
As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, WAIS provides six-monthly public updates to keep stakeholders informed of our progress in implementing the recommendations outlined in the Sia WAG Report.
