The future of Para sport in Western Australia is here, and its impact is already being felt.

WAIS has officially wrapped up the inaugural edition of its Para Unit Fast Track program, marking a significant milestone for the State’s high performance pathway, and the athletes who dream of competing on the world stage.

To honour this moment, WAIS followed the inaugural group with a camera crew, capturing authentic stories, powerful breakthroughs, and the genuine camaraderie that unfolded across the program. The resulting three minute documentary teaser spotlights the journeys of 3 of the 13 participants, but at its heart, it’s a warm and uplifting portrait of a group united by possibility, belonging and ambition.

The WAIS Para Unit is Western Australia’s first dedicated Para sport program. A game changing initiative designed to ignite future Paralympic success on the road to LA 2028, Brisbane 2032 and beyond.

This program was only made possible through an unprecedented collaboration between the Australian Government through the Australian Institute of Sport, Paralympics Australia, and the Western Australian Government. With the leadership and support of Minister Wells, Deputy Premier Saffioti, and Premier Cook, the WAIS Para Unit forms part of the national Para Uplift strategy, the largest investment in Paralympic sport in Australia’s history.

This commitment is already creating meaningful impact, reducing barriers to participation, identifying untapped talent, strengthening performance pathways, and developing world class Para-sport coaches within a supportive and inclusive high performance environment.

Throughout the Fast Track program, aspiring Para-athletes came together to try new sports, step outside their comfort zones, build confidence, and connect with each other. An opportunity to discover what’s possible both on and off the field.

At its core, the WAIS Para Unit exists to empower, develop and guide athletes toward success at the highest level, aligned with Australia’s High Performance 2032+ Sport Strategy.

We are incredibly proud of every athlete who took part in this first chapter, and we can’t wait to follow their journeys as they pursue their dreams of Paralympic representation.

If you’re an aspiring Para-athlete, support person or part of a sporting organisation and want to connect with the WAIS Para Unit, we’d love to hear from you.
