The Australian Sharks have defeated Canada 8-5 in their men’s water polo clash in China today.

After a slow start in their 9-8 loss to Spain recently national Coach John Fox had questioned the mental toughness of his charges, and he wouldn’t have been impressed with the first quarter again today with Australia having to over come a 3-2 first phase deficit before over powering their opponents.

Three goals to Pietro Figlioli and two to Trent Franklin allowed Australia to overcome the Canadians in the next three quarters of a physical match.

Tempers flared at times, with the biggest flash point outside the water when the Canadian Coach was sent off after abusing the referee over a decision.

West Australian driver Tim Neesham was also fouled out after accruing three personal fouls. Fellow West Australian’s Jamie Beadsworth and James Stanton also featured as Australia increased their chances of appearing in the medal rounds.
