Bogut’s Boomers Beat Russia

Australia’s basketball campaign is firmly back on course after the Boomers produced their best performance of the tournament to date with a 95-80 win over Russia in China today.

After losing their opening two matches in the tournament, Australia have now recovered to be 2-2 from their pool matches after a win over Iran was back-up by a powerful performance over Russia today, with star man Andrew Bogut in red hot form.

Bogut was key in both defence and attack for Australia and finished with 22 points to set up a likely second round fixture against the might of the American Dream Team, which includes some of the most formidable players in the NBA.

West Australian Shawn Redhage was also in action for the Boomers as they knocked out a Russian team that had been predicted to feature in the medal rounds.

Most impressive was Australia’s consistency over four quarters, leading at every change the Boomers were able to ward off he Russians every time they appeared to be making a comeback.

Australia’s last group match is against Lithuania on Monday.
