Boomers Boost Confidence With Victory Over Lithuania

The Boomers have had a victory against Lithuania in their final preliminary match at the Beijing Games.

WA basketballer Shawn Redhage contributed five points from six free throws he was awarded throughout the game, averaging 83% at the free throw line.

The Australian team won 106-75 to gain a third consecutive win, after previously beating Iran and Russia. The Boomers made a nervous start to the competition with losses in the first two games, but will have recovered some confidence from their current winning streak to face their next match in the quarter final on Wednesday.

The victory marks the first time Australia has defeated Lithuania in Olympic competition. Lithuania has twice denied The Boomers an Olympic medal, defeating the Aussie team in bronze medal playoffs at the 1996 Atlanta Games and the 2000 Sydney Games.
