Chaffer Gives Olympic Track the Thumbs Up

Australian sliders Michelle Steele and Lucy Chaffer have given the Skeleton track the thumbs up after their first training runs of the Sochi Games.

“It’s in great condition. It’s looking fast. The ice is looking smooth and it’s quite different to last time we were here in November, so we’re really going to have to work on that leading into the race,” Steele said.

The 27-year-old is loving being back in the Olympic fold, having competed at Torino 2006, but missing out on Vancouver 2010.

“I really enjoyed it tonight. I’ve been going over the track a lot since the last time I was here and it was just great to get back on it and actually experience and see how the ice is cut and what the ice is doing, because that can change.”

Teammate and WAIS athlete Lucy Chaffer was just glad to get back on the ice after a ten day break from trackwork.

“We had bobsled before us, so that’s always going to tear up the track a little bit. But the track workers they do a really good job, so there’s no problem with the track. The condition’s good,” Chaffer said.

The Women’s Skeleton competition takes place over two days: Thursday 13 and Friday 14 February.
