Madison de Rozario has finished in fifth position of the Women’s T53/54 1500m event which was held in Olympic Stadium on day six of Paralympic competition.

De Rozario earned her place in the finals following a fantastic performance in her heat on day five.

She competed in heat one where she found herself finishing in second position with a time of 3:31.54.

This time resulted in Madison entering the finals as the ninth fastest qualifier.

Racing out of lane four de Rozario was going to have to dramatically improve on her time from the day before in order to achieve a podium finish in the final.

Madison did not shy away from the challenge finishing the race in 3:24.33, shaving over seven seconds off of her time from the heats.

Her exceptional time resulted in a fifth place finish, 1.66 seconds behind the bronze medallist.

The T53/54 classification involves those athletes who have full upper body power but possess limited to no function in the legs.

As a result these athletes compete on the track in a wheelchair.

De Rozario will next compete in the T53/54 5000m event which is scheduled to take place later tonight (day seven).
