Dellacqua Opens With Singles Victory

Casey Dellacqua has commenced her debut Olympic campaign with an impressive first up victory in the women’s singles.

West Australian Dellacqua took to the court at the Olympic Green Tennis Centre against Argentina’s Gisela Dulko on Monday night and came away with a straight sets win. The current world number 40 beat Dulko, who is ranked four places higher at number 36 in the world, 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 23 minutes.

Next up Dellacqua will face Belarussian Victoria Azerenka on Tuesday night.

The 23-year old’s doubles campaign with Alicia Molik has yet to commence, with their first round match against Italians Flavia Pennetta and Francesa Schiavone postponed again.
