Kate Denning was the second WAIS athlete to debut for the Hockeyroos in a week

WAIS athletes Hope Munro, Fiona Boyce and debutant Kate Denning have helped the Hockeyroos finalise their preparations for the Samsung Champions Trophy with a 2-2 draw against Germany in Perth on Monday night.

Munro, Boyce and Denning took to the park in front of their home crowd at the Perth Hockey Stadium, as the Australians secured victory in the two Test series with another solid performance.

For Denning it was her senior international debut, following in the footsteps of her mother Elspeth Denning-Clement who won a gold medal as a member of the 1988 Olympic team, whilst it was Boyce’s second Hockeyroos cap in three days after her debut on Saturday.

The Australians led twice in the match, including after just seconds when striker Megan Rivers opened the scoring with a field goal moments after the commencement of the game, with the Germans fighting back to level the scores initially at 1-1 in the first half and then finally at 2-2 late in the second.

Frank Murray’s side had the chance to steal a late victory with a penalty corner in the final minutes but the German defence was resolute to see the scoreboard remain 2-2 at full time.
