Dual Success for Turbo Durbo

WAIS-AIS cyclist Luke Durbridge has won a unique double after winning both Institutes’ Junior Athlete of the year Award in the past week.

The U23 Road World Time Trial Champion was first lauded at the Australian Institute of Sport Annual Awards last Thursday night, before winning a third consecutive Western Australian Institute of Sport junior award following another sensational year.

Durbridge himself was unable to attend either awards night as he is currently based in Adelaide preparing for the UCI Track World Cup in Columbia, where he will reprise his role as part of the World Championship Australian teams pursuit squad.

Durbridge won a maiden senior track world title in Holland last March and is now looking to cement his spot in a highly competitive Australian team that is considered a strong medal chance in London.

The dual awards for Durbridge were on the back of a week in which he was named as the final signing for the new Australian Professional road team GreeEDGE.

His move to the Australian pro-team will commence on February 1, with his last race for the AIS-Jayco team to come in January’s Tour Down Under.
