Eighth Place Finish for Aussie Sharks

Australia has finished eighth in the men’s Olympic water polo competition after suffering a 9-8 defeat at the hands of Greece in the seventh place play-off.

Australia had at one stage led 8-7 but failed to kill off the match allowing Greece to score the final two goals of the match.

Figlioli scored three times for the Sharks whilst Martin and Campbell each scored two with a single to Woods.

The Sharks completed their Olympic campaign with three wins, one draw and three defeats. Western Australia had three representatives in Beijing, with Tim Neesham, Jamie Beadsworth and James Stanton all donning the green and gold of Australia.

Hungary claimed the gold medal with a 14-10 win over the USA, whilst Serbia defeated Montenegro 6-4 for the bronze medal.
