WA paddlers are expected to earn selection across all age groups for the 2019 international season following the completion of a successful Sprint Canoe National Championships at Perth’s Champion Lakes.

Jaime Roberts will be confirmed as a member of the senior Australian team later in the week, after she returned a strong series of results at both 200m and 500m distances.

This included national title wins in the women’s K4 500 and K2 200. She also collected bronze in the K1 200 final to add further success to the results reported last week.

Shannon Reynolds snared a pair of silver medals finishing behind Roberts in the K4 500 and K2 200. Yale Steinepreis – who has already secured a berth on the 2019 Australian U23 team – picked up a bronze medal in the K2 200 and was also sixth in the K1 200.

One of the state’s brightest young stars in Yasemin Ray enjoyed an excellent Nationals campaign, collecting a series of medals at U18 level, whilst also earning bronze in the senior women’s K4 500 final.

Her results in U18 competition, which were highlighted by wins in the K4 500 and K4 1000 were further embossed by medals in the K2 1000 (silver), K2 500 (silver), K1 500 (bronze) and K1 200 (silver).

She is expected to earn selection for the Australian Junior Team in 2019.

Lachlan Armstrong was also busy over the course of Nationals, with the 22 year-old Kinross local achieving some significant personal best times in qualifying for B Finals of the men’s K1 1000 and K1 500. Armstrong was fourth in the 1000m B Final and seventh in the 500 B Final.
