Sonja Johnson and Ringwould Jaguar in action in Hong KongWAIS equestrian athletes Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks and Sonja Johnson remain in pole position to claim gold for Australia after the second day of dressage in the three day team eventing in Hong Kong.

After a stunning first day performance yesterday by the husband and wife combination Johnson took centre stage on Sunday with a solid effort on her stock horse Ringwould Jaguar.

The Albany farmer scored 45.2 penalty points in her Olympic debut to put her in 23rd position overall.

More importantly however the team staked an early claim for the gold with Megan Jones complimenting the Fredericks’ performance with a score of 35.4 to secure the Australian team first place in the overall standings at the conclusion of the dressage.

Only the scores of the top three riders in each section of the eventing count for the team score so with the Fredericks and Jones’ scores the team sits on 102.8 penalty points, clear of Germany on 110.5.

In the individual competition Lucinda Fredericks remains in first position, with Jones fourth and Clayton Fredricks in sixth.

The three day event continues on Monday with the cross-country.
