Evans Sixth in Women’s 400m IM Heat – Misses Final

Blair Evans finished sixth in her heat of the 400m IM to miss the final at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Evans clocked a time of 4:40.42 which was not quick enough to feature in the final of the event, which was won by 16 year-old Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen (4:28.43).

Australia’s Stephanie Rice was sixth in the final (4:35.49) seeing her four year-old world record taken by Shiwen in the process.

There was better luck for the Australian swim team in the women’s 4x100m relay, with the Aussie team of Alicia Coutts, Cate Campbell, Brittany Elmslie and Melanie Schlanger taking gold in the final ahead of the Netherlands and the USA.

The Australians set an Olympic record of 3:33.15 to crush the Netherlands’ hopes of back to back Olympic crowns, the Dutch settling for silver in 3:33.79 and the USA the bronze
