Five WAIS graduates named in 2021 Kookaburras squad

Five Western Australian Institute of Sport hockey graduates have been selected in the 2021 Kookaburras squad, will head into the rescheduled Tokyo Olympic year with just one new inclusion.

Selected from the recent National Super Camp in Perth, the world number two ranked Kookaburras and reigning FIH Pro League Champions head in to 2021 as a force to be reckoned with as they eye Olympic gold.

The experienced Aran Zalewski continues in the team as co-captain with Tasmania’s Eddie Ockenden.

In defence Jake Harvie will remain a force on the pitch, while forwards Trent Mitton and Tom Wickham will be looking to add to their goal scoring tally of 79 and 24 respectively.

With 145 caps to his name, Tyler Lovell will continue as a consistent presence in front of goal 

“All of the players selected are excited about being in the pre-Olympic squad,” said Kookaburras Head Coach Colin Batch.

“We are looking forward to getting back to playing international matches and having that focus of the Olympics… It is getting closer.”

“Further to Tokyo, the selection of this squad is also about starting to target the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2024 Olympics in Paris.”
