WAIS Individual Athlete Support Program scholarships holders Clayton and Lucinda Fredericks have marked a year since the Beijing Olympics with strong performances at the English Festival of Eventing.
The husband and wife pair, who won silver medals as part of Australia’s eventing team in Bejing, both rode in events at Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire, with Clayton taking first place in the British Novice Championship.
Riding a new horse, Bendigo III, he finished on a scorre of 25.1 to beat fellow Australian Bill Levett.
The pair also took part in the Gatcombe Horse Trials World Cup qualifier at the same festival, with Clayton riding Ben Along Time and Lucinda on board Headley Britannia.
Lucinda led that competition after the dressage and jumping phases on her Olympic mount before withdrawing, with the horse in the midst of embryo transfer. Clayton also withdrew despite being in fourth place after the opening two phases with the aim of saving Ben Along Time for the upcoming Eventing World Cup.
