WAIS individual athlete support program scholarship holder Lucinda Fredericks secured a famous victory this week at the Rolex Kentucky three-day event in the US.

Fredericks – who along with her husband and fellow WAIS IASP athlete Clayton Fredericks won silver at last year’s Beijing Games – earned a standing ovation after completing a successful show jumping round on her horse Headley Britannia.

Lucinda’s result continues the family legacy at the event, with Clayton Fredericks having won the event in 2007.

Lucinda Fredericks and her 16 year-old mare claimed the victory with a score of 32.3 penalty points which was 6.1 ahead of Bettina Hoy on her mount Ringwood Cockatoo.

Headley Britannia became only the second mare to win the prestigious tournament in Kentucky, and Fredericks afterwards sung the praises of her star accomplice.

“Headley Britannia has been the most wonderful horse. What more could you possibly ask for? She’s come all the way from Wiltshire in England to beat some of the best in the world. I’ve had the best week of my life. See you next year,” the Beijing silver medallist said.

Fredericks is now in contention for the $500,000 Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing, for a rider who wins the Kentucky, Badminton and Burghley Four-Star Events in succession.
