Perth Glory has suffered its first defeat of the 2013 W-League season after falling to a 3-0 home defeat to the Brisbane Roar at Percy Doyle Reserve.

A third minute strike to Brisbane’s Tameka Butt put the Glory behind early, and two further goals from the visitors in the second half ended any prospect of a Perth comeback.

WAIS athlete and Glory captain Collette McCallum lamented her side’s first home performance and said the group had some work to do ahead of their next fixture with Melbourne Victory.

“In our first home game, we’ve got to do a lot better,” McCallum said.

“We’ve got to be putting it in at training now so we are ready for Melbourne Victory.”

The Glory defence were culpable for conceding early, after just three minutes, when Danish international Cecilie Sandvej failed to clear from an Ella Mastrantonio header. Matildas international Butt was quickest to react and chipped home from the left side of the penalty area having spotted the Glory keeper Chantel Jones off her line.

The Roar doubled its advantage on 63 minutes when Brisbane captain Clare Polkinghorne reached a highball first ahead of the on rushing Jones to nod the ball into an unguarded net.

Amy Chapman’s 83rd minute sealer was also the goal of the match, with Chapman unleashing an unstoppable drive from 25 yards into the top corner.
