Western Australian rower Rhys Grant has completed his debut appearance at the Olympic Games with a third place effort in the men’s single scull B Final.

The results earns Grant a ninth place overall ranking in the single scull field, with the 29 year-old producing a consistent week of racing to make the most of his representative opportunity.

The pace was on from the outset in the B Final, with Grant tracking fifth at the first split, which he covered in a time of 1:40.39.

Known for his finishing speed, Grant worked his way through the field and by the finish line, had passed athletes from Norway and Egypt, to take third place in a time of 6:51.90.

The B Final was won by Poland, with Mexico in second place.

Day 8 was the final day of competition for the rowing program, from Lagoa Stadium.

In total, it has seen 14 medal events, with 550 athletes in action, including 20 from Australia. Australia picked up a gold medal and two silver at Rio, with Kim Brennan’s success in the women’s single scull highlighting Australia’s charge.
