Western Australian cyclist Jai Hindley has taken out the title of Best Young Rider at the 2017 Herald Sun Tour, after a strong performance across the four stage race.

Competing as part of the KordaMentha Real Estate Australian National Team, Hindley raced alongside fellow Western Australians Michael Storer and Cameron Meyer.

Hindley began the final stage of the event 38 seconds behind race leader, Damien Howson.

Despite any efforts Howson’s team, Orica-Scott controlled the race all-day making it impossible for Hindley to find the lead.

Jai’s final placing made it a 1-2 finish for Australia with South Australian, Damien Howson taking out the general classification.

Cementing his place in the lead on day one and maintaining this throughout the remainder of the race Howson said “I’m really happy to join that list of guys and to get my first win only a couple of days ago to continue all the way through and keep the yellow jersey on the final day, it’s my first overall win ever.”
