Hockey Players Prepared for the Trans-Tasman Trophy

Published On: 17 November 2016

Six Western Australian hockey players have flown to Auckland New Zealand, in preparation for the Trans-Tasman Trophy tournament against the New Zealand Black Stick teams, set to begin today.

Kathryn Slattery will compete with the Hockeyroos, whilst Chris Bausor, Tristan Clemons, Tyler Lovell, Trent Mitton and Aran Zalewski were all selected as members of the Kookaburras team last month.

Due to the absence of captain Mark Knowles from the Kookaburras team, Aran Zalewski has been named to step up as captain for the tournament.

The inaugural Trans-Tasman Trophy follows the formation of a partnership between Hockey Australia and Hockey New Zealand to host the event.

This partnership will see the competition be hosted on alternate years in Auckland and Canberra, with Australia hosting in both 2017 and 2019.

Unlike other tournaments where women and men compete for a separate trophy, the Trans-Tasman Trophy will see a combined trophy awarded.

The winner will be announced based on the results of all sides across the six match tournament.

The competition kicks off this afternoon with the Hockeyroos taking on the Black Stick Women at 1:30pm AWST.
