Hockeyroos face Russia in do-or-die qualifying series for Tokyo Olympic Games

The Hockeyroos will face Russia in a two match do-or-die qualifying series at Perth Hockey Stadium at Curtin University, this weekend as they look to secure a place at next year’s Tokyo Olympic Games.

Local favourite Georgia Wilson continues her return from an ACL injury as she plays her 32nd match in front of a home crowd.

The world number two Hockeyroos find themselves in the last chance qualifier after narrowly losing to New Zealand at Oceania Cup in September, which saw the Black Sticks automatically qualify.

“If we control what we can do, do it well and stick to the game plan, I believe we’ll be able to come away with some success,” said Hockeyroos Head Coach Paul Gaudoi.

“One of the things we have spoken about is the ability to play in high pressure matches. We took some learning from those qualifiers against New Zealand and now we have another opportunity to play in high pressure games.

“It highlights that you can’t take qualifying for the Olympics for granted, particularly in the women’s game.”

Entry is free and both matches will be broadcast live and exclusive on Kayo.
