The Hockeyroos have found some form to post their first win of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games on Day 5 of competition after recording a 6-1 victory over India.

The Hockeyroos had endured back to back defeats in their opening two fixtures in Brazil, losing by a single goal to both Great Britain and the USA.

With hopes of an Olympic quarter final at stake, Australia produced easily its most fluent performance in Rio to date, to create regular goal scoring opportunities and boss possession and tempo of the match for extended periods.

The Australians set up victory with a quick start in the opening quarter, hitting the scoreboard through Kathryn Slattery and Georgina Morgan, who both notched up their second strikes of the tournament.

Despite dominance, it took until the third quarter to extend the lead for Australia, coming through Jane Claxton, with Georgie Parker adding a fourth just a minute later.

A brace to Jodie Kenny either side of the third quarter time break guaranteed victory for the Hockeyroos and all that was left was for a last minute consolation for India. A remarkable consolation it was however, with Anurahda Thokchom volleying home a deflected high ball at chest height, in a manner befitting a tennis top spin passing shot.

Australia will complete its group stage fixtures with matches against Argentina at 5:00am Friday morning Perth time and a clash with Japan on Sunday morning at 6:30am.
